Company Exits: Building and Selling a company from a CTO's perspective
CTOs Reveal “How I Drove Commercial Success by Leading with Technology”. As the smartest engineers and scientists in the world, in this panel you will learn the secrets of how IIT alumni built three revolutionary products companies that thrilled customers, conquered the competition and led to excellent exits. We will start with the technical underpinnings, then go on building world-class teams and perhaps hear about leap-frogging the competition. Briefly we will touch on one $3.7 billion exit, another sold to a Japanese company and yet another IIT alum who built two startups at the same time! As a bonus, we will have insights from a seasoned Superstar IIT alum Kanwal Rekhi, who was one of the first Indian American Founder and CEO to take a venture backed technical company public on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange. He has since been responsible for advising and investing in many technical unicorns.

Life Sciences : Transforming San Diego and The World
A few powerful trends promise to reshape medicine and healthcare in the coming decade. The first is the ability to collect deep multiomic (genomic, proteomics and metabolomic) data at scale from patient samples. Coupled with increasing access to electronic medical records and the increasing power of big data analysis, this multiomic big data is paving the way for faster discovery of new drugs and potentially a faster, less risky and more cost effective drug development process. Also, new technologies like CRISPR and Gene Therapy are allowing for novel tailored cures for diseases deemed untreatable even a few years ago. Of course, all of these require ever more effective measures to protect company and patient data. The panel will discuss some of these developments, and their implications for research, drug discovery, and innovative partnerships.
